Growing into leadership
A coaching route for the transition from individual expertise to responsibility for a team.
Recognise the changed role
The strongest specialist is not automatically prepared for the different work of leadership. Discuss how priorities, decision rights and relationships change. Make the new expectations explicit so the person is not asked to infer them from a title alone.
Work on the weekly pattern
Examine how the leader spends time, delegates decisions and stays informed. Choose one repeated situation where a different approach could help the team. The aim is not to remove expertise but to use it without becoming the bottleneck for every decision.
Review the transition
Use coaching conversations to consider the effect of small changes. What can the team now handle, where is the leader still needed and what remains unclear? A practical review helps the new role become sustainable.
