Growth changes roles

Responsibilities that worked in a small team may become unclear as a company grows.

Notice the repeated question

If the same decision repeatedly returns to the founder, examine why. The team may lack authority, information or a shared understanding of the priority. Adding another reporting line will not necessarily resolve that uncertainty.

Clarify an interface

Choose one handover between functions and describe what each side needs. Agree who decides, who contributes and how an exception is raised. A concrete working agreement is easier to test than a broad instruction to collaborate better.

Review after use

People discover the practical effect of a new responsibility through work. Create a point to revisit the agreement and listen for unintended consequences. Organisation development is an ongoing management task, not only a diagram.
